Introduction to Environmental Rating Scale Part I - II

This training session consists of two (2) parts.

Part 1 is for all providers and will be an overview of the Environmental Rating Scales. Part 2 will focus on specific tools based on a provider's program type and age group of the children they serve. Both parts will need to be completed in order to get credit. No partial credit will be given.

Monday, April 1, 2024; 6 - 9 pm; Provides an overview of the ERS tool. The focus of the ERS is on interactions with young children, health & safety, the age-appropriateness of daily schedule and access to materials within the environmen.

Part 2: Tuesday, April 2, 2024; Providers select one of two sessions to attend:

9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Overview of the ITERS and FCCERS facilitated by Stacey Langer

(ITERS-3 tool for teachers/administrators of birth - 3 year old classrooms / FCCERS-3 tool for family child care (FCC) providers)

9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Overview of the ECERS and SACERS facilitated by Pam Walker

(ECERS-3 tool for teachers/administrators of 3 -5 year old classrooms / SACERS-3 tool for teachers/administrators of school aged classrooms)

In each session providers will learn the components of the age-specific ERS tool. They will learn what quality indicators the tool uses to identify best practices within the age-specific classroom. Providers will get a general idea of how the scale assigns a score for the assessment.

Course Length

- This training has 6 hours total

All parts of this training session, when applicable, must be taken together to receive credit for participation. No partial credit or make up is permitted.

This training is required for advancement to Level 2 in Learn & Grow:

  • Administrators must complete this session as part of achieving the “Alaska Early Childhood Administrator Credential”
  • Lead teachers must complete this session as part of “Level 2: Moving Into Higher Quality Training”.
