Parents, caregivers and teachers can develop early literacy skills in children from birth. Early literacy skills lead the way for fluency and comprehension in reading, an essential skill for school success. Attendees will learn what early literacy is and how it is shaped by brain development from birth. Attendees will understand the recommended strategies for cultivating early literacy skills. Also highlighted will be the positive impact of shared reading time with children from birth to age 3 and how to enhance the reading experience. Attendees will also learn how to borrow free, statewide resources from the Ready to Read Alaska.
