Introduction to the Alaska Core Knowledge and Competencies & Alaska Early Learning Guidelines

The first half of this training will cover the Introduction to the Alaska Early Childhood Core Knowledge and Competencies. The second half of the training will cover the use of the Alaska Early Learning Guidelines.

Part 1: The Alaska’s Early Childhood Core Knowledge and Competencies (AK ECCKC) are designed to assist ECL educators develop the many skills needed to provide quality programs for children. This session will provide an introduction to AK ECCKC, how they are organized, and how they connect to and support the professional development of ECL educators.

Part 2: Planning curriculum to achieve important learning goals is one of the aspects for effective teaching of young children. In this training participants will reference the Alaska Early Learning Guidelines (ELG) as a tool to develop intentional planning activities and strategies for supporting children’s physical, cognitive, communication and creative skills that support learning goals for infants to preschool aged children.

These trainings are required for advancement to Level 2 in Learn & Grow:

  • Administrators must complete this session as part of achieving the “Alaska Early Childhood Administrator Credential”
  • Lead teachers must complete this session as part of “Level 2: Moving Into Higher Quality Training”
