Gender and Sexuality in Early Childhood Education

Add to Calendar Wednesday, Apr 21, 2021
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Facilitated by Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands, this two-session series will provide an overview of sexuality and how this can developmentally show up in an early childhood education classroom while equipping educators with the skills needed to navigate these situations. The first session will examine how we talk to young children about gender and the ways that we may unknowingly encourage gender stereotypes during playtime and beyond. The second session will review typical stages of sexual development from birth to adult and how those stages might show up in a classroom. Participants will also learn how to answer sensitive questions from students. Effective April 1, 2021, educators must be present and visible on video camer for the entire class time.
